about open doors

We structure all of our activities around the Early Years Foundation Stage, which supports children to gain various important skills they will need to grow through life. Our aim is to ensure that by the time the children leave Open Doors day nursery they will be “school ready”, with a broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress.

Teaching from the EYFS guidelines ensures all children can make good progress providing quality and consistency throughout the early years. It helps us to build a secure foundation offering opportunities that are planned around the needs and interests of individual children, which are regularly reviewed. It secures partnership working between the staff team, parents/carers and outside agencies whilst ensuring equal opportunities to all.

We recognise that some parents would like to be more involved with their child’s development and we welcome all parents and carers to spend time with their children at the setting for stay and play sessions. As we understand how hectic and busy a parents life can be, there are no set times for these sessions. All we ask is for you to arrange a suitable time for both yourselves and the nursery to accommodate you.

The nursery also believes that children learn best by experiencing different environments, therefore we arrange outings as much as possible. Being fortunate enough to be located very close to the Victoria embankment, the local shopping precinct, Arkwright Community Gardens and having a city library opposite the nursery, makes outings easy and fun. Parents and carers are always welcome to join us on these outings to not only strengthen the bond between you and your child but to also offer an extra pair of hands!

We pride ourselves on offering a strong professional relationship with parents and carers to ensure children are kept healthy and safe. We realise parenting is not the easiest of jobs and are always there to offer help and support whenever it is needed. The Nursery manager is always available for you to speak to if you have any areas or concerns you would like support with, please do not hesitate to ask. We also welcome any feedback to ensure we can meet the needs of all the families we offer our services to.

Throughout your child’s time with us we will record their development in a diary format, which is unique to them and will show how they have progressed throughout the time spent with us. We offer the opportunity to discuss your entire child’s development at home and in the nursery, so our members of staff are fully supporting your child as he/she grows, all information provided is confidential. Our members of staff are always available and will encourage you to discuss all those special occasions, which are important to you, so we can share and support them with your child.

Parents/carers are encouraged to attend parent’s evenings and any other special events throughout the year. Please look out for our newsletters that will published each term.

Getting used to being away from your child can be difficult so it is important to us that you feel relaxed and confident that they are being cared for correctly. There is no need to worry about missing out on your child’s successes as we will record them for you and update you when you come to collect them. If there is anything else that we can do for your peace of mind, just let us know!
